Chobble Tickets vs Wix Events

Wix Events is a ticketing add-on built into the Wix website builder. Here is how a dedicated, open source ticketing platform compares.

Pricing comparison

Wix Events charges a 2.5% ticket service fee on every paid ticket sold. That's on top of a mandatory Wix Business & eCommerce plan starting at $29/month (approximately £23/month or £276/year), plus Wix Payments processing fees of 2.1% + 20p per transaction in the UK.

So for a £15 ticket, Wix takes 37p in ticket service fees, plus 51p in payment processing - 88p per ticket before you've even factored in the monthly subscription.

Chobble Tickets is a flat £50/year regardless of how many tickets you sell, with Stripe processing at 1.5% + 20p. No per-ticket platform fees, no monthly subscription treadmill.

Feature comparison

Wix Events is tightly integrated into the Wix website builder, which gives it some advantages if you're already a Wix user - but also means it's locked into that platform. Here is an honest breakdown:

Both platforms share some features:

  • Online ticket sales with payment processing
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout
  • QR code scanning for check-in via mobile app
  • Email confirmations to attendees after booking
  • Capacity management to prevent overselling
  • Free event support with no ticket service fee
  • Multiple ticket types per event with different pricing tiers
  • Pay-what-you-want ticket pricing
  • Custom questions on the registration form
  • Guest list management with CSV export
  • Recurring event support
  • Refund processing

Wix Events has features Chobble Tickets doesn't:

  • Full website builder - Wix Events is part of the Wix platform, so you get a complete website with drag-and-drop design tools, not just a ticketing page
  • RSVP events - create free RSVP events for weddings, parties, and gatherings with guest tracking and waitlists, separate from ticketed events (note: waitlists are only available for RSVP events, not ticketed events)
  • Reserved seating
    • built-in seating map builder with rows, tables, and general admission areas, letting guests pick their seats at checkout
  • Discount and promo codes - create fixed-amount or percentage discount codes, optionally scoped to specific ticket types or events, with usage limits
  • Dedicated check-in app
    • "Check-in by Wix" app with offline scanning, up to 100 staff per event, and ticket-type filtering (Chobble uses browser-based QR scanning)
  • Event schedule builder - create detailed multi-session schedules for conferences and festivals, with tags, filters, and a personal agenda feature for guests
  • Membership-gated events - restrict event access to site members or specific membership tiers via Wix's Pricing Plans
  • Online event hosting - live stream events via Wix Video (up to 3 hours) or create Zoom-integrated events with auto-sent join links
  • Built-in email marketing - send event campaigns, scheduled reminders, and automations through Wix's email marketing tools, plus broadcast messages to all guests via the Wix app
  • Event analytics - built-in reporting on registrations, sales, and attendance
  • Buy-now-pay-later - Klarna and Clearpay support via Wix Payments (at higher processing rates)
  • Plus-one support - guests can add up to 10 additional guests when registering
  • Tax configuration - configure tax rates and display tax-inclusive or exclusive pricing per event
  • Per-event currency - set a different currency for each event (not dynamic multi-currency display, but useful for international organisers)
  • Apple Wallet passes - guests on iOS can add tickets to Apple Wallet (Google Wallet requires a third-party app like PassKit)
  • Custom registration form field types - free-text fields, dropdowns, checkboxes, and other field types beyond multiple choice

Chobble Tickets has features Wix Events doesn't:

  • End-to-end encryption - attendee data is encrypted at rest with hybrid RSA-OAEP + AES-256-GCM, not just stored in a database
  • Open source - every line of code is public under AGPLv3, no proprietary lock-in
  • Self-hosting option - run the platform on your own servers for free, with no licence fee
  • Flat annual pricing - £50/year with no per-ticket fees, no matter how many you sell
  • No monthly subscription - pay once a year, not every month
  • Apple & Google Wallet tickets - attendees can add tickets to both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet natively, without third-party apps
  • Embeddable ticket widget - drop an iframe snippet into any external website to show your events inline (Wix Events only works within Wix sites)
  • ICS calendar feeds - subscribers get automatic calendar updates
  • RSS feeds - syndicate your events to feed readers
  • Tiered ticket types via groups - create VIP, early bird, and other tiers using event groups with a shared capacity cap (max attendees per group)
  • Daily/recurring events - per-date capacity with calendar picker and holiday blackouts
  • Custom questions - add multiple-choice questions to events and collect structured answers at checkout, with answers visible across the admin interface, CSV exports, and webhooks
  • Admin API - full CRUD for events via API keys, so you can automate event management from scripts or external tools (Wix has a developer API but it requires building a custom Wix app)
  • Webhooks - simple outbound POST on every registration, configurable per event from the admin panel (Wix webhooks require building a custom app via the Wix developer platform)
  • Custom email providers - use Resend, Postmark, SendGrid, or Mailgun so emails come from your domain, not the platform's
  • Customisable email templates - full control over confirmation emails with Liquid syntax for a fully white-label experience
  • Custom domain - get a nice yourname.tix.chobble.net subdomain instantly, or point your own domain - either way, not a wix.com URL
  • No marketing to your attendees - your audience stays yours, with no cross-promotion or Wix branding
  • Community Interest Company - run by a CIC, not a publicly traded corporation

Data ownership

With Wix Events, your event data and attendee information lives on Wix's servers within their proprietary platform. If you stop paying your monthly Wix subscription, you lose access to your ticketing setup, event pages, and attendee data. Your events are also tied to the Wix website builder - there's no way to take your ticketing to another platform without starting over.

With Chobble Tickets, attendee data is encrypted and stays under your control. The entire platform is open source, so you can self-host it and never depend on a third party.

When Wix Events might be the better choice

  • You're already using Wix for your website and want ticketing integrated into it
  • You need a full website builder alongside event ticketing
  • You want RSVP events for weddings or parties
  • You need reserved seating with interactive venue maps
  • You need online event hosting via Wix Video or Zoom
  • You want membership-gated events tied to your Wix site
  • You sell very few tickets and prefer spreading costs monthly

When Chobble Tickets is the better choice

  • You already have your own website and just need ticketing
  • You want predictable, flat-rate pricing with no per-ticket fees
  • You don't want to pay £276+/year for a Wix plan just to sell tickets
  • Privacy and encryption matter to you
  • You don't want a platform marketing to your attendees
  • You're a community group, charity, or school (£25/year)
  • You want Apple/Google Wallet, calendar feeds, or a public API
  • You value open source and the ability to self-host

Who owns Wix?

Wix.com Ltd. was founded in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami, and Giora Kaplan in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company went public on NASDAQ in November 2013 under the ticker symbol WIX.

Wix is a publicly traded company with institutional investors holding approximately 84% of shares, including BlackRock, Baillie Gifford, and Capital Research and Management Company. CEO and co-founder Avishai Abrahami holds approximately 1.4% of shares. As of 2024, Wix reported its first-ever GAAP operating profit and has over 250 million registered users worldwide.

Wix Events is one of many apps built into the Wix website builder - ticketing is a feature within a much larger website-building platform, not a standalone product.

Chobble Tickets is run by one person as a Community Interest Company (CIC) - a UK legal structure that locks the company's assets for community benefit. All of Chobble's code is public under AGPLv3, and the platform can be self-hosted by anyone without depending on Chobble as a company.
