Two approaches to rentals

Yo!Rent is rental marketplace software. It is built by FATbit Technologies as a ready-made product that you buy once and run on your own server. People use it to launch a website where many owners list physical items for rent, such as cars, camping gear, cameras, party furniture, tools, and heavy equipment. It supports single-vendor stores, multi-vendor marketplaces, and peer-to-peer rental sites.

Chobble Tickets is an event ticketing platform that also handles hire. Each listing has a type, and setting the type to hire switches the default options to hire ones. Combined with delivery and collection scheduling and the ability to block out items that are out of action, this lets a single operator take bookings for their own equipment.

The difference is scale and model. Yo!Rent is for building a rental business where the public, or many separate vendors, browse a catalogue and rent items. Chobble Tickets is for one operator hiring out their own items on set dates, often alongside events.

How Chobble Tickets handles hire

A hire booking works like an event booking with a date and a limited number of units. When you set a listing's type to hire, the options default to hire settings rather than ticket ones. A customer picks a date. For a paid hire, the booking uses capacity only when payment confirmation arrives. If two payments race for the last unit, Chobble Tickets refunds the later payment automatically.

Three features make this work for a hire business:

  • Delivery and collection - each booking can have a drop-off and a collection, assigned to an agent (a van, a driver, or a crew). Agents get a run sheet on their phone showing the address, phone number, a map link, and a "mark done" toggle for each drop-off and collection.
  • Servicing holds - when an item goes out for repair or cleaning, you block its capacity for those dates without creating a customer booking, so nobody can hire it while it is out of action.
  • Accounting ledger - record the costs tied to each item, such as repairs, replacement parts, or fuel, so each listing's profit reflects both income and costs.

This suits a business hiring out its own stock. It does not turn Chobble Tickets into a multi-vendor marketplace, and it does not add per-item deposits, late fees, or formal rental contracts. Yo!Rent does all of those.

Pricing comparison

Yo!Rent charges a one-time licence fee rather than a subscription or a per-transaction cut. You pay once, get the software, and host it yourself. There are no recurring platform fees and no per-rental commission. Data ownership and licensing

Both products can keep your data on your own server, but the licences are different.

Yo!Rent is proprietary software sold with a one-time licence. You buy the product, get the source code, and install it on your own hosting, so customer data lives on infrastructure you control. The source code comes with a commercial licence, which is not the same as open source. You can run and modify your copy, but you cannot freely redistribute the code, and the higher tiers charge extra for the mobile app source code.

The complete Chobble Tickets product source is published under AGPL-3.0-only in a public GitHub repository. You can read it, fork it and run the software without paying Chobble a licence fee. The operator still pays for infrastructure and configured services. Customer data is encrypted at rest, so stored names and emails require credentials for an authorised keyed user.

Self-hosting either product keeps customer data on your own server. The difference is that Yo!Rent charges a large one-time fee for a proprietary licence, while Chobble Tickets has no Chobble software licence fee for self-hosting.

Yo!Rent is developed by FATbit Technologies, a software company that sells ready-made products for launching online marketplaces. Yo!Rent is sold as a self-hosted product with a one-time licence fee, aimed at entrepreneurs starting rental businesses.

Chobble Tickets is run by one person as a UK Community Interest Company (CIC), a legal structure that locks the company's assets for community benefit. All of Chobble's code is public under AGPLv3, and the platform can be self-hosted by anyone without depending on Chobble as a company.
